The Tale of the Glass
Some see the glass as half full. Some see the glass as half empty. The late George Carlin once joked that the glass was twice as big as it needed to be! Me? I see the glass as falsely imprisoning the fluid within it... it needs to be let out!
This reminds me of the boundaries that have been set, the control that has been established, and then the subversive reign of confusion that is so prevalent in the world through the distracting arguments, posturing, and wrangling amongst ourselves as to which is the appropriate perspective, truth, and reality of the glass-vs-fluid relationship.
We have slowly lost our focus on the weightier things in life and have built entire industries, communities, and "pulpits for postulation" to battle over the much less significant issues in our world. Were we to elevate ourselves some 30,000 feet above the surface of life as we know it, the glass and its contents would surely disappear from our sight. The 30,000 foot position above the surface gives us a world view that reaches beyond the boundaries, beyond the lower-level turmoil, and certainly beyond the view-obstructing-events occurring at the surface (distraction). This world view helps us to see where the storms are occurring in our world, which also includes the dry and weary land.
Take some time, look around, then grab up that glass of fluid and pass it along to someone who is thirsty! Regardless if the glass is half full. Regardless if the glass is half empty. Regardless if it is twice as big as it needs to be, it does have fluid in it and that fluid needs to be let out and passed along to someone who will not quibble about it's container's relative size, shape, color, or creed. They have thirst and it needs quenching. Jesus said, "But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." (John 4:14) Give to those who are thirsty, then argue, debate, and speculate about it later, if you must!
